چکیده

A fluidized bed reactor was used to study the degradation of the surfactant linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS). The reactor was inoculated with anaerobic sludge and was fed with a synthetic substrate supplemented with LAS in increasing concentrations (8.2 to 45.8 mg l). The removal efficiency of 93% was obtained after 270 days of operation. Subsequently, 16S rRNA gene sequencing and phylogenetic analysis of the sample at the last stage of the reactor operation recovered 105 clones belonging to the domain Bacteria. These clones represented a variety of phyla with significant homology to Bacteroidetes (40%), Proteobacteria (42%), Verrucomicrobia (4%), Acidobacteria (3%), Firmicutes (2%), and Gemmatimonadetes (1%). A small fraction of the clones (8%) was not related to any phylum. Such phyla variety indicated the role of microbial consortia in degrading the surfactant LAS.

Introduction: Emission of volatile organic compounds through industrial processes to the environment has been received more attentions currently. Photocatalytic oxidation process as a new emerging technique in air purification can be substituted for conventional techniques such as activated carbon adsorption. In photocatalytic oxidation process, pollutant molecules decompose to water and carbo...

A Three-Phase Fluidized Bed Anaerobic Biofilm Reactor Model for Treating Complex Substrates

The main purpose of this paper is to present a model of a three-phase solid-liquid-gas system to investigate the hydrodynamic and biological behavior and performance of fluidized bed anaerobic biofilm reactors (FBABRs). A general one-dimensional axial dispersive dynamic model is proposed for computing the variation of the properties such as hold-ups and superficial velocities of all phases, bio...

Experimental and Theoretical Investigation of Anaerobic Fluidized Bed Biofilm Reactors

This work presents an experimental and theoretical investigation of anaerobic fluidized bed reactors (AFBRs). The bioreactors are modeled as dynamic three-phase systems. Biochemical transformations are assumed to occur only in the fluidized bed zone. The biofilm process model is coupled to the system hydrodynamic model through the biofilm detachment rate; which is assumed to be a first-order fu...

Two Phase Modeling of Char Combustion in a Circulating Fluidized Bed Reactor Using ASPEN PLUS

In this paper, combustion of char in the riser of circulating fluidized bed was modeled using ASPEN PLUS. Since physical and chemical phenomena are involved in the process, the model integrates the two-phase hydrodynamic sub-model with the reaction sub-model derived from the literature. In the proposed model, the fluidized bed is divided into several sections and the behavior of each section wa...

Investigation of a Cold Model of Internally Circulating Fluidized Bed with Draft Tube to be used as a two-Zone Fluidized Bed Reactor

In this research, a cold model of internally circulating fluidized bed is investigated. The aim is to find the effects of some of the operating parameters on the performance of the reactor. Experiments were carried out in a glass column (30 mm i.d. and 25 cm height) with a centrally located draft tube (11 mm i.d. and 5 or 7 cm height). The bed was loaded with white silica particles (dp = 0.15 -...
